AUGUSTA, Maine - On Saturday, Jan. 27, the winners of the annual Frank J. Gaziano High School Lineman Awards will be announced, as well as the four runners-up. The winners will each receive $5,000 in scholarships and the runners-up will each receive $1,000 in scholarships. The awards and scholarships make the Gaziano Awards the largest high school scholarship of its kind in the country. The event is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center. The awards portion of the event will be broadcast live on the internet starting at 1 p.m. at www.munzingmediasports.com/gaziano-award. Gaziano Award finalists: Offensive Linemen: Cole Hoffman, Kennebunk High School Zachary Klein, Bonny Eagle High School Sean McCormack-Kuhman, Wells High School Defensive Linemen: Michael Lunny, Sanford High School Aidan Parmenter, Leavitt Area High School Arlo Pike, Bonny Eagle High School The scholarship and awards program for Maine high school football linemen was created in 2010 in memory of Frank J. Gaziano, founder of National Distributors in South Portland, and a former college All-American and professional football player with a lifelong passion for local sports. During the past seven years of the Gaziano Awards, $82,000 has been awarded by National Distributors to Maine students. One offensive and one defensive lineman will each receive $5,000 and a first place trophy, and four runners-up and will receive $1,000. The award winners will be announced at a luncheon ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Augusta Civic Center. The scholarship and awards program for senior class Maine high school football linemen was created in 2010 in memory of Frank J. Gaziano, founder of National Distributors, Inc. and a former college All-American and professional football player with a lifelong passion for local sports. The awards are presented to student-athletes who epitomize the character, leadership, and perseverance of Gaziano, and who are selected by the awards committee based on their strong leadership on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
